YMCAs in the UK and Ireland often want to develop their links with YMCAs overseas. In some cases groups have arranged exchange visits with an overseas YMCA. Y Care International can offer practical and organisational advice on such visits (if they are to a country where we have partnerships), but not financial assistance. For more information please email our Global Youth Work team: firstname.lastname@example.org
Not usually. Y Care International does not have the resources to be able to pay or arrange for young people from the UK and Ireland to travel overseas to visit our work. However sometimes our global youth work programme involves an element of international travel, for example our youth delegations to Israel and the Palestinian territories, or to Sierra Leone. In these cases both the participating YMCA and Y Care International assume responsibility for the visit.
Many of the YMCAs we work with have found pre-visit fundraising and awareness raising to be an important part of the experience for the young people involved. Y Care International takes a three-step approach to international travel as part of global youth work activities. First, pre-visit preparation and education, second, the visit itself, and third, follow-up and putting into practice into their everyday lives what they have learnt.
There are many ways you can support Y Care International financially. You can choose to support one of our emergency appeals, or you can choose to support a particular area of work that Y Care International is involved in. Our Get Involved page also has plenty of fundraising ideas. Why not give by recycling old mobile phones and used printer cartridges? In certain circumstances it might be possible for a YMCA to support a particular project. Please get in touch to find out more.
