Young women’s resilience to floods in Bangladesh

There is an urgent need to examine vulnerable people’s resilience to disasters. This is particularly important for developing countries prone to natural hazards like Bangladesh who have experienced cyclones, tidal surges, floods, earthquakes and droughts. Currently, very little is known about the resilience of vulnerable young people, especially women.

This student-led study aims to address this gap. We have analysed the literature surrounding disaster resilience, and collected primary data from vulnerable young women in the north of Bangladesh. This report presents our key findings and recommendations.

This study is the sixth from our valuable partnership with King’s College London.
