“Like me, I’m sure you have provided for your children and grandchildren in your Will so they can build their future. But once you’ve looked after your own family, could you do the same for a young person like Yusuf?

The future belongs to the young

Half the world’s population is under 30. Nine out ten live in the developing world. 500 million earn less than £1.50 a day. So in partnership with local YMCAs in 15 countries, Y Care International works young people like Yusuf, giving them the opportunity to get out of poverty and into business.

Yusuf grew up in civil war. He came of age during the tragedy of Ebola. Lost his slum home to coastal erosion. Yet today he shines with the resilience, ambition and optimism of the young. With the help of Y Care International and YMCA Liberia, Yusuf has become a tailor. He’s set up a shop away from the slum. He’s supporting his family, saving for his future and teaching his trade to three other young people. And he’s done it all by his own hard work.

The gift of opportunity lies with you

By including Y Care International in our Wills we know that some of the world’s most disadvantaged young people will be supported even after we’ve gone; helping them into work and out of poverty and strengthening communities in the future. There aren’t many gifts you can make that last beyond a lifetime, but a charitable bequest to Y Care International can make a difference for generations to come.

Thank you for choosing to support this wonderful charity by remembering them in your Will.”

How to leave a Legacy

Thank you for considering including a gift to Y Care International in your Will. There are several types of gift you can choose:

A pecuniary legacy

This is a fixed sum of money. This is the simplest option, but please be aware that the sum’s value could diminish over time unless it is index-linked.

A residuary legacy

This is a percentage of share of what remains of your estate is what remains after all other payments and gifts have been made. Many people prefer to leave a residuary gift because it keeps in line with inflation and does not lose value over time.

A specific legacy

A particular item, such as a piece of property or an item of jewellery.

In order to leave Y Care International a gift in your Will you will need to include the following information:

Name:
Y Care International

Charity number:
1109789

FAQs

We would recommend consulting a solicitor when writing your Will, to cover all legal formalities and ensure your Will is valid. The cost of this will vary depending on the complexity of your Will and the assets you have/arrangements you need to make.

The Law Society can help you to find a local solicitor. For more information, call 020 7320 5650 or visit www.lawsociety.org.uk.

Currently inheritance tax is paid to the UK government at a rate of 40% if your estate is worth more than £325,000. However, the rate might be reduced to 36% if 10% or more of your estate is left to charity.

Most gifts left to Y Care International are exempt from inheritance tax because we are a charity. Contact HMRC or a solicitor to find out more.

It is up to you whether you disclose that you have left us a legacy gift. We would love to hear from you – so we can thank you and to help us plan for the future. To let us know about a gift, please contact us using the details above. Any information you give us will be kept in strict confidence.

Of course you can. A Will is a personal document reflecting your final wishes. You are free to change your mind at any time.

You don’t need to be rich to leave a gift to charity in your Will. Each and every gift makes a difference. People often find they can afford to be more generous in their Will than in their lifetime. No matter the size or amount, your gift will contribute to our work with the most disadvantaged young people around the world.

We are very grateful for all donations. However, we encourage supporters to consider a legacy gift because we don’t know what situations may arise in the future, and they allow us to be prepared for this.

We understand that you may have a preference over which project your gift is used for – and you’re entitled to do this. However, we encourage gifts left to us to be unrestricted. This means we are free to use the money where it is most needed at the time.
