Support from YMCAs enables Y Care International to create opportunities for vulnerable young people to find jobs and work their way out of poverty. We deliver transformational projects in communities across 15 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East and the UK.
We work with local YMCAs to deliver practical help directly to young women and men internationally. These successful partnerships allow us to transform young people’s lives in some of the world’s poorest communities. But there is still much more to be done.
By 2020, we plan to reach 60,000 young people, creating opportunities for them to work their way out of poverty.
Young people across the world have the power to transform their communities, as well as their own lives. We support them to do that. As a YMCA you can too by joining our current UK YMCA partners.
We are proud of our partnerships with many YMCAs across the UK – including Fairthorne, London South West, Humberside, and Wirral. They are supporting us to help more vulnerable young people around the world change their lives for the better.
How do YMCAs support our work?
All donations from our YMCA partners in the UK are channelled into our Investors in Young People Fund. This fund helps us to:
- Start large, high impact programmes by securing grants from government and other donors which require co-funding
- Develop valuable new programmes
- Pilot projects to test new approaches and innovative action
- Contribute to increasing the sustainability of our work
- Strengthen the ability and capacity of our local YMCA partners across the world.
A huge thank-you to everyone involved!
YMCA Fairthorne generously donated £20,000 to our Investors in Young People Fund.
Chris Hand, Chief Executive Officer of YMCA Fairthorne, says: “Over the last year we have been supporting Y Care International’s great work overseas through their Investors in Young People Fund. We have been extremely pleased to see how our funding has made such a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable young people around the world. With more support from YMCAs in the UK, we can see many more young people around the world living, learning and earning.”
YMCA Fairthorne’s support has helped young people like Ainga of Madagascar:
“After the training about life skills, I became more confident, more engaged in terms of recruiters because before I was so shy. Now, I can trust other people and I have more self-esteem. The training the YMCA provided created a big impact on my life because first of all I found a job. After the training, the YMCA helped me with every step of my work. Right now, I can contribute to the income in the house. I also support my younger brother with his school fees and I save about a third of what I earn a month. My hopes for the future are that I will have my own house and business, building on what the YMCA has taught me.”
Benefits of joining us
Throughout the year, you and your YMCA will receive regular updates and invitations to events to keep you informed about how your gift is creating opportunities for young people to help themselves out of poverty.
Young people from your YMCA can also get involved in Y Care International’s work through the International Citizen Service. This is a chance for young people to work alongside other young people in some of the world’s poorest communities.
There are so many ways that you could help, and we would love to talk to you about how we can work together.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0207 549 3154 to discuss getting involved, and joining Y Care International’s Investors in Young People Fund, to make a different to vulnerable young people around the world.
