Sergeant Mohamed Kargbo lives in Kissy community, Freetown, Sierra Leone. He is a police sergeant and part of the community-night-patrol which was set up by the local YMCA with the support of Y Care International.
Sergeant Kargbo is also a keen musician and plays the trumpet in the police band. There were high rates of crime among the young boys in the area, but Sergeant Kargbo wanted to give them a different focus so he began teaching music at the local Methodist boys school. Sergeant Kargbo’s music project, along with the night-patrol, has significantly decreased the crime rate and transformed the lives of the boys in the area.
Christmas is a time when we often consider how we can show love to our neighbours around the world.
I hope you find Sergeant Kargbo’s story as inspiring as we do. It is a story of loving your neighbour and giving whatever resources we have to spread joy to those around us. Your donation could support local initiatives like Sergeant Kargbo’s music project so young people and their communities can flourish.
