Y Care International Emergency appeal
7 February 2011
Seven-year-old Amina from Senegal has never heard of the global recession but could quite easily be a victim of it. We are so grateful to all our supporters who are continuing to give so that we can carry on providing help to children and young people like her.
As the end of the financial year approaches, Y Care International is facing a £100,000 shortfall in income.
I must stress that this is entirely due to the current punishing financial climate – our budgeting is always done with the greatest prudence. But we count on the gifts people leave us in their Wills in order to fund projects around the world and, this year, with the unpredictable housing market, these gifts have not brought in the income expected.
This shortfall would mean that young people’s futures like that of seven-year-old Amina inevitably hang in the balance.
Amina lost her father in the civil war. He was shot and killed outside the house where Amina and her mother still live. Now Amina’s mother faces a desperate struggle to provide for the family.
As you can see from the enclosed photo, Amina is thin and looks much younger than seven. But because of our project, she is now able to attend school, and her mother is hopeful for Amina’s future. Her mother says that she hopes that, with education, Amina’s life will turn out better than her own.
Can you make sure children and young people like Amina can continue to receive the training and support they need so desperately to have a future free from poverty? Please send your gift today.
£10 could help keep a child like Amina in school and safe from life-threatening illnesses like malaria
£195 could keep a livelihoods project in Senegal running for a week.
