Young campaigners to march on Parliament
5 May 2009
On Thursday 14 May young people from YMCAs across the UK will be marching on Parliament as part of the Youth Justice in Action campaign.
They will be asking three things of Ministers and MPs:
1. Dignity: To ask MPs to pledge to speak respectfully about young people, particularly during a general election campaign2. Respect: To ask MPs to implement the UN Human Rights Council resolution to provide educational and rehabilitation programmes for young people caught up in the criminal justice system
3. Justice: To ask MPs to take action to reduce the number of young people in prison – reducing overcrowding in prison and ensuring custody is only used a last resort.
Come along and join us for an afternoon of lobbying and debate - a great opportunity to get your voice heard on the issue of youth justice. Meet us as at 1pm at:
Mary Sumner House
24 Tufton Street
London
SW1P 3RB
Contact: celine.grey@ycareinternational.org
If you’d like to come along and support the campaign, please try and contact your MP in advance to book a meeting with him/her that afternoon. This will give you more chance of meeting them in person at Westminster. To find out who your MP is and to make contact with them, go to: www.faxyourmp.org
We look forward to seeing you there! For ideas on what your YMCA can do on the day, download a resource pack here .
