Youth Justice in Action campaign to go to the UN
1 August 2008
The Youth Justice in Action campaign is being taken to a new level. We’ve joined forces with The World Alliance of YMCAs to take the campaign to the UN.
In March 2009, young campaigners from the six campaign countries will meet at the United Nations Human Rights Council to push the UN and member states to make youth justice a reality. Youth justice issues have long been ignored at the UN, either because they are not recognised as a specific problem demanding action, or because they are seen as too difficult to tackle.
The young campaigners will also be taking messages of support from young people around the world to decision makers at the UN. Why not fill in one of our action cards and get your voice heard at: youthjusticeinaction.org/take action
Thanks to its’ consultative status at the UN, the World Alliance will enable the research carried out by young people in YMCAs in our partner countries, to be shared not only on a national, but an international platform.
This new dimension will enhance and strengthen the advocacy work which has been carried out by young people since the campaign was launched in South Africa two years ago.
