Seed Funding
In 2008, Y Care International initiated its first Seed Funding Programme, which offers small grants of up to and including £1,000 to members of Y Care International’s Youth Workers Network in the UK and Ireland.
2009 has seen the second round of funding and we have distributed over £7,000 since April to YMCAs across the UK and Ireland. We are already hearing some fantastic stories! In Scotland, Cumbernauld YMCA has begun their Fair Trade project with an evening exploring various ethical products and in the process, promoting some excellent cross-generational links between young people and their 'Golden Age' group. Over the summer, they did further work with their Youth Committee to develop their understanding of Fair Trade and decide on an action that can be taken by young people from Cumbernauld, Motherwell, and the surrounding area.
Young people from Northern Ireland and Scotland have also been coming together to look at issues related to gangs and territorialism. Read more here
In West London, the Hayes and Harlington 'Tumbler' hosted their global music project in August 2009, bringing young people from around the local area into the YMCA to explore the roots and meanings of global music by co-creating a song with the YMCA of Estonia.
