Afghanistan emergency

Y Care International supported relief work from December 2001 as a desperate humanitarian crisis unfolded in Afghanistan, a country ravaged by 20 years of conflict.

The situation had been worsened by three years of chronic drought, severe human rights abuses and the international crisis.

Following massive population movements, more than five million people faced little chance of surviving the winter unless support was given quickly.

Our partner, ACT International, worked through local NGOs and church organisations to support communities by providing food, water and shelter, and meeting their sanitation needs.
